The staff at FenceTek were involved in the supplying and installation of this bespoke oak picket fence, to match a very old Church boundary fence that was in a very bad state of repair.
They produced CAD drawings of the existing fence, pale profile, rail, and post detail, in order that suppliers could tender for the supply of the oak timber and then manufacture to match the existing.
It is now unusual to supply oak for fencing, softwood pressure treated with Tanalith E, has taken its place, being both more economic and durable. There is also a problem in sourcing oak that complies with the British Standard 1722 Fencing series.
The ground conditions at the church obviously suited the durability of the oak, and it was very pleasing to be able to replace ‘like with like’.
The Staff at FenceTek were involved in successfully tendering for a contract to replace the boundary fences around Braywick Sports Ground, for the Royal Borough Council of Windsor & Maidenhead. The Ground is a key multi-sporting facility within the, Maidenhead area and many local clubs use it for a variety of sports including rugby, hockey, football, and athletics.
The tender was fiercely contested by five Companies but the Estimating and Design Team were the most competitive due to excellent suppliers the technical ability to supply the client with drawings and clear specifications of what was being offered. The specification for the replacement fence was very stringent and the standard 1800 high Betta Ultra Steel Palisade Fence pale, to a 3.0mm thick ‘W’ section, in order to comply.
The Contract was for the replacement and upgrade of the old dilapidated and insecure boundary fence around the Ground. The Work entailed dismantling and removing, to a licensed tip, 629 linear metres of old boundary fence and supplied and installed 629 linear metres of 1800 high Ultra Steel Palisade Fence galvanised and powder coated green RAL 6005.
Two galvanised steel and powder coated green, gate arches 3.0 metres wide and 3.0 metres high; within the bowed top of the arch was set “BRAYWICK”, in 150 mm high lettering, were also installed.
The fencing upgrade has enabled the Sports Ground Administrators to restrict pedestrian access to the official entry points, thereby improving not only the security for the users, but the infrastructure as well. Strict vehicle access was closely controlled by installing anti-ram telescopic bollards under the two gate arches of the outlying official entry points.
Staff at FenceTek Limited were involved in tendering for and carrying out, a project for a private client through Project Managers Gardiner and Theobald and Landscape Architects Balston & Company.
The project consists of fencing to woodland and road boundaries of the country estate, in order to reduce human trespass, keep out deer and rabbits and keep in stock and horses.
The design of the fence, by Landscape Architects Balston and Company, used renewable softwood pressure treated for a thirty year life.
On the woodland boundaries the mortised 150 x 100 mm posts were dug into the ground 900 mm and rammed back filled at 3000 mm centres.
The road boundary is subjected to regular vehicle impact and to improve strength and ease of repair, the mortised 150 x 100 mm posts were bolted to galvanised steel channel concreted into the ground at 3000 mm centres.
The fences consisted of 3 arris rails 2 ex100 x 100 pre-shaped to fit into the post mortises; 38 x 38 section vertical pales and galvanised rabbit netting let into the ground vertically and then turned horizontally outwards.
Staff at FenceTek Limited were involved with the successful negotiations to win the supply and installation of galvanised steel palisade fencing and gates to the boundary of a main Gas Station installation, on the Harefield to Southall 1220 diameter Gas Pipeline.
Contract Managers liaised closely with Main Contractor J Murphy during the tender period and were instrumental in finding the best steel palisade fence system to comply with both the requirements of British Standard 1722 Part 12 and the National Grid Specifications. Competition was fierce, but with a good compliant fencing system, backed by detailed drawings, the Contract was secured.
The work consisted of 150.0 linear metres of 2400 high galvanised palisade fencing with single pointed ‘W’ section pales set in a 300 x 200 C40 concrete sill. The contract also included a matching 6000 wide double leaf manual swing gate and two single leaf manual swing gates with panic latches; erectors from FenceTek Limited carried out the ground preparation.
The contract was carried out under strict safety parameters, full personal protection equipment for all the staff, including fire retardant clothes, was obligatory. Method Statements and Risk Assessments were carefully prepared and all personnel were required to undertake the full safety induction by J Murphy.
Three installers completed the installation in twelve working days, well within the client’s stringent time table.
Staff at FenceTek Limited were involved in successful winning a contract to supply and install special louver panels to the newly built Mortuary at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Previous work for the Main Contractor, Costain Limited, consisted of temporary hoarding around a very tight site where space was at a premium and all trades had limited working areas.
Normally the installation company would supply the steel work for supporting the louver panels, but in this instance, the steel work was installed with the main building steel. This called for Close liaison with Luxtrade, the manufacturer and Costain Limited, to work together to design special panels that met the client’s requirements and fitted the steel work already in place.
The louver panels were manufactured from 40 x 2 mm bars at 45º, spaced at 22 mm giving a 3 mm overlap. The panel edges consisted of SHS, RSA and RHS sections depending upon the existing site steel work. The panels were galvanised to EN ISO 1461 and polyester powder coated to BS6497 with a standard RAL matt colour.
The work consisted of two heights of panels 2100 and 2350 to the service yard area, 2530 high panels to the upper level and a matching manual double leaf swing gate 2600 high x 1690 wide to the lower level at ‘Staircase C’.
Staff from FenceTek Gate Automation Department were involved in the supply and installation of matching automated cantilevered sliding gate, to the service yard area. The gate was 2600 high and spanned a clear opening of 6500 mm, with safety features complying with BS EN 13241-1.
With the tight restraints of the site and the many bespoke panels, installation was difficult but successfully completed with the close co-operation of the manufacturer, Luxtrade and the main contractor Costain limited.
APX Plenty – Pro V Mesh Security Fencing System
The Staff at FenceTek Limited were involved with the completion of a security fence and gate contract for SPX Plenty in Newbury, Berkshire.
The client faced difficult decisions as to which security fencing system and gate configuration was appropriate for their access, environmental, and security requirements. This took some 14 months of discussion, but the Estimators, working through a Main Contractor, remained patient and were able to offer advice on several systems. Their advice was based on excellent product knowledge and costs, aided by drawings, and photographs.
A tender was finally submitted based on the Pro V Mesh Security Fence System in heights of 2400 and 2000. The system has its own built in rigidity through three preformed ‘V’ horizontal profiles to each 3000 wide sheet. The posts were 60 x 60 RHS galvanized and powder coated green RAL 6005, to match the panels, supplied and installed with individual post foundations.
The Pro V Mesh Security Fence System provides good strong secure boundaries without the look of heavy fortification.
The end client had to carefully plan access for heavy goods vehicles of varying lengths and weights, car parking, and pedestrians. The team supplied and installed a 2000 high x 4000 wide double leaf swing gate and a 2400 high x 6000 wide single leaf swing gate, all to match the fencing.
The main heavy goods access point required a 15.0 metre opening without ground being wasted with swing gates but at the same time being manually operated. The Estimators used all available experience, including the specialist Gate Automation Department, to design, draw, and install a twin leaf sliding gate 2400 high and spanning 15000, with an infill to match the fencing. The end client were anxious to avoid heavy gates that could possible create a health and safety issue, if to heavy to close manually. The gates installed, although weighing over a tonne each leaf, were so designed with the clever use of rollers, they could be pushed by one finger!
The contract commenced in late February and completed by mid March.
Staff at FenceTek Limited were involved in winning a substantial security and general fencing contract with John Sisk & Son Ltd regenerating part of a brown field site for Brixton plc.
All departments worked together to provide drawings and samples of different fencing systems, in order to meet the Brixton plc brief.
John Sisk & Son Ltd had planned in a tight three-phase contract, which called for good management, and liaison skills with fellow subcontract ground and landscape Companies, in order to meet tight deadlines and profit margins.
The Pro Mesh System was offered in order to meet the three criteria of security, non-intrusive and reasonable cost. The profiled weldmesh system provides a rigid panel that is quickly and easily fixed to RHS posts with security bolts and cones. The System was supplied in heights of 2400 and 4000 mm in both powder coated green and black.
The versatility of the standard RX Security Railing System meant it was easily and economically adapted to match the design brief of having steel channel horizontal rails. The System was supplied in heights of 1250, 1650 and 2400 with some being free standing and others fixed to retaining walls.
Site sub-stations were protected with 2400 high heavy double-sided hit and miss timber fencing and gates using sustainable softwood pressure treated with Tanalith E.
A heavy but balanced specification was used for the knee Rail fencing and again produced from sustainable softwood pressure treated with Tanalith E.
Galvanised and galvanised / powder coated Key Clamp was installed in various locations, the canal basin fence being particularly interesting but fraught with difficulties whilst installing.
The welded tubular safety handrail on the external steps, were left to the last possible moment to manufacture and install to ensure a perfect fit.
The contract was often difficult and frustrating, but also interesting to implement, and the Staff believes it met all the design, cost and programme criteria the client required.
Staff at FenceTek Limited were involved in the submitting a of a tender to Bracknell Forest Council, for the refurbishment of a public tennis court fence; the existing chain link fence was dilapidated through vandalism. Though the contract was closely contested, the Contract secured by having a strong presence in the area, experienced installers of all types of fencing, and excellent suppliers.
The tender price, however, had to reflect the degree of difficulty in completing the work with the tennis courts remaining open through out the fence replacement programme.
Not only did the tender price have to reflect the difficulties but also the preparation and execution of the Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Safe Working Practices, in order to keep the public, players, installers, vehicles and materials safe. The dismantled material was removed immediately to a licensed tip and new material was fed daily to the site to reduce the risk of accidents and theft.
To minimize the disruption to the courts, the amount dismantled and erected in a day was strictly controlled.
The work consisted of dismantling and disposing of 180 metres of existing fences and gates, the supply and installation of new. The chain link was replaced with 2750 mm high, 50 x 50 mesh black plastic coated weldmesh, supported on 50 x 50 mm RHS steel intermediate posts. The line wires and weldmesh was strained and secured to 60 x 60 mm RHS steel strainer posts complete with struts and straining fittings; all steel posts were galvanised and powder coated black (RAL 9005). One replacement single leaf gate, with gate posts, to match the fencing was supplied and installed.
The work was completed in seven working days, without incident, by two installers qualified to erect and use towers, so that working at height was as safe as possible.
The Staff at FenceTek Limited were closely involved in advising and installing, on behalf of Reading Borough Council, Ultra Bar Panel Fencing System, around St Martins Catholic Primary School, in order to secure the school boundaries.
The Ultra Bar Panel is a cold rolled railing system that when compared to other conventional railing systems, is lighter, more adaptable and cost effective, but most importantly in a school environment, is RoSPA approved to EN1176.
It can be seen from the photographs, the balance appearance of the Ultra Bar posts and rails along with a wide choice of RAL colours enables the product to blend into most environments, whether rural or urban.
The Ultra Bar System can cope with slopes of up to 30º without stepping and enabled installation around the school to be both easily achieved and cost effective.
The Estimating and Design Teams provided two heights of railings, 1800 high with a single top rail and 2400 high with a double top rail. Single and double leaf gates were also supplied and installed to match the fencing.
